E-mail: satyamarora83@ gmail.com For a long time, it has been thought that matching of ABO blood groups is an absolute requirement for successful solid organ transplants (SOT). In the last few years, however, several centers have started to perform ABO-incompatible SOT with encouraging results. Today, transplant physicians[1] are confronted with ABO-incompatible grafts in for kidney and liver from living donors. Initial results of these kidney transplants (KT) achieved low graft survival due to high anti A and anti B isoagglutinin in the recipients but recently developed desensitization protocols have improved survival to levels that are comparable to ABO-compatible KT. However, isoagglutinin is still regarded as a major obstacle[2] to ABO-i KT.

ABO isohemagglutinin titration or hemolysin test: what should we do to reduce the risk of passive hemolysis?☆
Platelet concentrates from ABO-identical donors are the components of choice for transfusions. Since platelet inventories are generally insufficient and because there is usually a higher frequency of group O donors, perfect matches are not always possible and therefore ABO-incompatible platelet transfusions are an accepted practice when ABO-identical platelets are unavailable.1 However, an acut...
متن کاملComparison of antibody titers using conventional tube technique versus column agglutination technique in ABO blood group incompatible renal transplant
INTRODUCTION Measurement of alloantibody titer to a red cell antigen (ABO titers) is an integral part of management of ABO incompatible kidney transplants (ABOiKT). MATERIAL AND METHODS There are different methods of titer estimation. Alloantibody detection by tube titration and Gel agglutination columns are accepted methodologies. It is essential to find the difference in titers between the ...
متن کاملIncomplete Antibodies May Reduce ABO Cross-Match Incompatibility: A Pilot Study
OBJECTIVE Any erythrocyte transfusion among humans having type A or B blood groups is impossible due to antibodies causing fatal transfusion complications. A cross-match test is performed to prevent immune transfusion complications before transfusion. Our hypothesis is that the fragment antibody (Fab) part of the antibody (incomplete antibody) may be used to prevent an immune stimulus related t...

ABO-incompatible transplants comprise up to 50% of allogeneic progenitor cell transplants. Major, minor and bidirectional ABO-incompatible transplants each have unique complications that can occur, including hemolysis at the time of progenitor cell infusion, hemolysis during donor engraftment, passenger lymphocyte syndrome, delayed red blood cell engraftment, and pure red cell aplasia. Appropri...
متن کاملHemolysis of transfused group O red blood cells in minor ABO-incompatible unrelated-donor bone marrow transplants in patients receiving cyclosporine without posttransplant methotrexate.
Hemolysis most commonly occurs following bone marrow transplant when there is "minor" ABO blood group incompatibility between donor and recipient. The hemolysis has been attributed to destruction of the patient's incompatible erythrocytes by donor-derived anti-A and/or anti-B antibody produced from "passenger" immunocompetent donor lymphocytes. Extraordinary transfusion requirements of group O ...
